Shmuel Orlan

Born on the 25th of Shvat, 5708 in Hadera
Fell in the Yom Kippur War on the 11th of Tishrei, 5734

Rabbi Shmuel Orlin was born on the 25th of Shvat 5708, in the Hadera. He spent his childhood in the village in which he was born and began his education in the religious school there. Later, he transferred to the Yavneh religious public school in Netanya. From the year 5722, he continued his education in this school, and in Elul of 5724, he transferred to Yeshivat Chevron in Jerusalem, where he studied with great diligence for two and a half years.

Shmuel, who felt a need to combine "the book with the sword," transferred to Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavneh where he studied in the Hesder program, combining religious studies with army service. He began his military service in the paratrooped Nachal and later transferred to the armored corps. After he finished the hesder program in Kerem B'Yavneh, he decided to return to Jerusalem and continue his studies at Yeshivat HaKotel. There, too, he stood out as being very diligent, and was known to have great mastership of the Talmud.

During his period of study at Yeshivat HaKotel, in which he studied to be a Dayan, he would discuss the Halachot and rulings of the Shulchan Aruch with the greatest Rabbis of Jerusalem. He merited to be tested by, and receive Smicha (ordination) from Rosh Hayeshiva Rav Goldvicht, zt"l.

He fell during a battle over the quarry in Nafach, during the afternoon of the 11th of Tishrei, 5734.

May His Memory Be Blessed
