Hamashgiach Harav Avraham Rivlin, shlita

The Mashgiach, Rav Avraham Rivlin, shlita, was born and raised in Yerushalayim. He studied in Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavneh in 1963-68, and, after completing the hesder program, continued to learn in the Kollel. He received semicha from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate, as well as from Maran Rosh Hayeshiva Harav Goldvicht, zt"l, and earned a teacher's diploma from the Teachers' Training Institute (Machon) at Yeshiva. During his period in the Kollel he also taught a shiur for overseas talmidim.

In 1971, Rav Rivlin went to Johannesburg, South Africa on shelichut. There he taught gemara and Jewish studies at Yeshiva College and served as youth director of the synagogue for four years. Since his return to Kerem B'Yavneh in 1975, he has served as Mashgiach Ruchani of the Yeshiva, as well as Dean of Overseas Students. He has also given Tanach classes for many years in the Machon, and has developed them into two volumes of Iyunei Mikra on sugyot in Tanach.

Rav Rivlin's influence is greatly felt throughout the Yeshiva. He gives a weekly sicha on parshat hashavua, as well as general sichot mussar throughout the year. In these talks he stresses the importance of mussar as a critical component in the development of a ben Torah. His dynamic Tanach shiurim involve the listeners, and demonstrate how Chazal's interpretations grow out of a thoughtful reading of the text and a proper understanding of the characters involved.

In "tishes" and "mesibot," Rav Rivlin's powerful voice and inspirational singing and dancing set the tone for the bnei hayeshiva. He is warm and friendly, and has a close relationship with the talmidim, who approach him freely for advice and help. In addition, he learns mussar and shemirat halashon together with small groups of talmidim. He is responsible for shiur assignments, and is very involved in the day to day running of the Yeshiva, such as planning activities, arranging speakers, etc. Aside from his involvement with the talmidim, he coordinates an adult education program at Yeshiva for local principals and school administrators, who come to hear shiurim at the Yeshiva every Tuesday morning and afternoon.
